It is a simple and cheap beauty solution that’s packed with natural ingredients to soften and nourish the skin. Here are some of the benefits to using these natural ingredients you can find in your own kitchen!
Banana is packed with vital vitamins and nutrients that provide a fantastic base for a homemade beauty face mask—think vitamin B6, manganese, vitamin C, potassium, biotin and fiber. Vitamin B6 helps produce red blood cells, detox the liver and provide energy to the body, all of which are important functions to providing healthy skin. (1) The nutrient manganese aids in building collagen for healthy skin, and is a potent antioxidant that protects against free radical damage. (2)
The well-known vitamin C is essential for helping to keep the immune system healthy, while providing protection against free radical damage and producing healthy collagen. (3) Another nutrient important for skin health is biotin, which is necessary to build healthy fats in the skin. These fats keep the skin supple and moist, and when they are gone, the skin becomes flaky and irritated. (4) Aim to consume more biotin-, manganese- and vitamin C-rich foods to prevent skin rashes and have smooth skin!
There’s more to avocado than guacamole. The healthy creamy avocado is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which help to maintain moisture in the skin, keeping it soft and supple, making it a perfect food for daily skincare.
The avocado fruit (yes, it’s a fruit) provides many nutrients such as fiber, vitamin K, copper, folate and vitamin E. Be sure to add this healthy fatty fruit to your diet to receive health benefits such as free radical damage prevention from the vitamin E. (5)
More incredible benefits for healthy skin from the avocado include protection from UV rays and visible radiation due to its lutein and zeaxanthin content, and treatment for some forms of dermatitis and arthritis. Eat an avocado a day for silky smooth skin!
Honey is a natural antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic food. This sweet substance made by bees contains hydrogen peroxide, a natural humectant that attracts and retains moisture. To name some of its benefits, honey can reduce inflammation, promote healing, diminish scar size, stimulate tissue regeneration, and treat eczema and psoriasis.
This sweet food yields fantastic healing properties due to the fact that it offers antibacterial activity and maintains a moist wound condition. In addition, its high viscosity helps to provide a protective barrier to prevent infection, therefore making it a great choice for an alternative therapeutic agent in certain medical conditions. Overall, honey can heal wounds and produce a wonderful face mask to promote healthy moisturized skin.
As you can see, these three simple ingredients pack a mighty punch of nutrition for healthy skin. The great part is, they taste amazing, too! Here’s how to make your own homemade face mask (or dessert!):
